At Thurton Auto Centre, we recently had a very lucky customer who narrowly escaped a complete engine failure on their Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost. What we found when carrying out their wet belt service was shocking—and it highlights just how crucial regular servicing is!

The Shocking Discovery

As part of our wet belt service, we stripped the engine and were met with a disaster waiting to happen. The wet belt had started degrading so badly that the teeth were literally falling off in our technician's hands. To make matters worse, the oil filter was completely blocked, starving the engine of vital lubrication. Had they continued driving for much longer, the engine could have suffered irreversible damage, leading to a costly replacement or even a full engine rebuild! 💸

Why Does This Happen?

Many modern engines use wet timing belts, which run inside the engine oil for quieter operation and improved efficiency. However, over time, these belts degrade due to: ✅ Oil contamination ✅ Heat and wear ✅ Breakdown of belt material

When the belt begins to degrade, bits of rubber mix with the engine oil, leading to blockages in the oil pump and filter, which in turn starves the engine of oil—a recipe for disaster!

Thurton Auto Centre will help raise vital 

funds for the Thurton & Ashby St Mary pre 

school leading up to the schools yearly auto jumble and classic car show on the 26th May 2024... 


Thurton Auto Centres manager Kevin Heap explains, we were approached by Ruth Yallop a committee member from local charity Thurton & Ashby St Mary pre school, asking whether we would contribute to the charities raffle.  They'd asked us donate some prizes for them to give away at their yearly auto jumble sale and classic car show hosted by the charity yearly.  Initially we responded offering two prizes to give away including a FREE MOT and a Oil & Filter Service.  However MD Terry Minter felt we could have more of a positive impact by promoting the yearly event and contributing £2.50 for every service, MOT or repair carried out for local residents who register their support leading up to the charities yearly event. 

With no time to waste, as they say time is money.  The team at Thurton Auto Centre welcome all customers to particpate in this fund raising event, simply ​register your support by completing the quick and easy form below and that's it, and when you book your vehicle(s) for a service, MOT or repair we'll donate £2.50 to the charity.

Pure joy seeing customers reaction unvailing restored motorhome

Welcome to Thurton Auto Centre's blog, where we share heart warming stories of customer satisfaction and excitement. Today, we're thrilled to recount the unforgettable experience of one of our customers who recently laid eyes on their motorhome for the very first time after entrusting us to give their much loved motorhome some much needed TLC to rejuvenate its condition to as new as possible. 


Picture the scene: anticipation building, heart racing, and then, there it is—the motorhome of their dreams, fully refurbished waiting to whisk them away on adventures yet to be written.  For this particular customer, the first sight of their motorhome was nothing short of magical. It was more than just a vehicle; it represented freedom, exploration, and countless memories waiting to be made. 


But it wasn't just about the vehicle itself; it was the service, the expertise, and the passion of the Thurton Auto Centre team that truly made the difference. Our dedicated staff ensured that every aspect of the customer's experience was seamless, from initial inquiries to the moment they drove off the lot with a smile that stretched from ear to ear.

A Word From Our Customer

"Well I’m not normally speechless but these guys achieved the impossible.

Having taken my tired looking motorhome to them to see if they could freshen it up, bit of body work, renew the sealant, sort out the cracks coming off the bike rack fixings, oh and solve the problem of rain coming into the awning from the roof !
Not much to ask eh ?
The guys went above and beyond, full paint job on back, all sealant refreshed( it’s now white ) wheels powder coated and brand new caps fitted, very smart and we have an experimental job on the roof to reroute rain water away from the side where the awning sits. Praying that it works as bailing out the awning on a morning is no fun.
At all times I was kept up to date with the work being done, even had photos of finished work sent through to me. Not enough to see the real deal, oh no, they wait for the big unveiling on the day of pick up for that and what an unveiling it is ……..
OMG ……….. I can’t believe I’m looking at the same tired motorhome that was …… this one, well
IT SPARKLES, the decals are brighter, the wheels are glowing like new, the sealant is white, the bike rack is polished up and refitted correctly so no more cracks, the painted back bodywork is showroom spec.
Nothing is too much for these guys, they achieve the impossible and as one of their team states “ Can’t is not a word you find in our workshop ! “
100% recommendation for these guys, I couldn’t be more happy
