A wet belt (also called a ‘belt in oil’ timing belt) is a key engine component that keeps everything running in perfect time. Unlike traditional cambelts, wet belts run inside the engine, constantly lubricated by oil.

Manufacturers such as Ford (EcoBoost & EcoBlue) and PSA (Peugeot, Citroën, Vauxhall) use wet belts to improve efficiency, reduce friction, and meet modern emissions standards.

Although designed to last, wet belts break down over time as the rubber and bonding materials degrade in hot engine oil. 

As the belt deteriorates, the oil itself can become contaminated with belt debris — creating a cycle of damage.

If a wet belt isn’t replaced on schedule, the consequences can be severe:
