What are you trying to improve?

A motorhome can be within its limits and still feel unsettled, low or tiring to drive.

Motorhome conversions place very different demands on suspension originally developed for a commercial base vehicle. The right upgrade can restore ride height, support changing loads and improve the way the vehicle behaves on real roads.

Rear sagging

The rear sits low when loaded with water, bikes, luggage or touring equipment.

Body roll & pitching

Roundabouts, corners, braking and uneven roads create excessive vehicle movement.

Crosswind sensitivity

The vehicle feels nervous in exposed conditions or when passing larger traffic.

Harsh or noisy ride

Road impacts, vibration and rattles make longer journeys uncomfortable and tiring.

Difficult pitch levelling

Ramps, blocks and repeated repositioning make arrival slower and less convenient.

Payload uncertainty

You need to understand whether a legal GVW uprate and supporting hardware are possible.

VB-SemiAir rear auxiliary air suspension with digital controller
VB-SemiAirAuxiliary rear support that works with the original leaf-spring suspension.
Adjustable rear support

Support the load. Restore the stance.

VB-SemiAir fits air springs between the chassis and rear axle on suitable leaf-sprung vehicles. It supports the original suspension rather than replacing it, and its dual-chamber design allows left and right pressure to be adjusted separately.

Selected Base kits from£1,195*
Digital and Comfort variants are typically higher. Vehicle appraisal is essential.
  • Increase rear ride height and available spring travel within approved limits.
  • Reduce rear sag and off-centre lean caused by uneven loading.
  • Improve stability and provide variable rear spring support.
  • Reduce strain on the original shock absorbers and protect the vehicle body from impacts.

Front support or balanced front-to-rear upgrade

VB-CoilSpring and the VB-Essentials Pack.

A permanent mechanical spring upgrade can solve a specific front-axle problem. Pairing front support with adjustable rear air assistance creates a more balanced starting point for loaded motorhomes and campervans.

VB front coil spring and suspension components
Standalone front support

VB-CoilSpring

Vehicle-specific reinforced or replacement coil springs provide permanent support. Unlike an air system, there is no manual or automatic adjustment: the spring rate is fixed and always working.

  • Restores or increases front ride height on suitable vehicles.
  • Supports additional conversion and touring load.
  • Improves spring travel, steering stability and balance.
  • Simple mechanical solution with no compressor or controls.

  • Front and rear components specified to work together.
  • Reduced rear suspension compression and sag.
  • Improved everyday stability, steering feel and comfort.
  • Practical foundation upgrade without moving to full air replacement.

VB Comfort and Handling Pack suspension components
VB-Comfort & Handling PackA balanced suspension and damping route for regular touring and mixed roads.
Regular touring & longer journeys

Reduce unwanted movement. Drive with more confidence.

The Comfort & Handling Pack combines vehicle-specific suspension support with optimised shock absorbers or adaptive damping, depending on the application. Front support, rear adjustability and controlled damping work together to settle the vehicle.

Manufacturer price from£3,745*
Including installation and VAT. Some model-specific packages are priced higher.
  • More controlled steering response and front-axle stability.
  • Adjustable rear support to respond to changing touring loads.
  • Reduced body roll, pitching and excessive suspension movement.
  • Improved stability in crosswinds and on varied road surfaces.
  • Less driver fatigue without moving to a complete FullAir replacement.
Application detail matters: the exact component combination can vary by platform. Some packs use VB-CoilSpring, VB-SemiAir Digital and optimised shock absorbers; certain applications may use VB-Active adaptive damping.
VB-FullAir fully automatic air suspension system and control unit
VB-FullAirAutomatic air suspension that replaces, rather than merely assists, the original steel suspension.
Premium automatic air suspension

From rear-axle automation to four-corner control.

VB-FullAir automatically adapts ride height to load and driving conditions. FullAir 2C replaces the rear suspension on compatible vehicles; FullAir 4C replaces the suspension across all four corners for the highest level of integration, comfort and functionality.

VB-FullAir 2C

Motorhome & campervan GVW uprating

More payload is a legal and technical process — not simply more air pressure.

A suspension upgrade can support a heavier operating condition, but it does not by itself change the plated Gross Vehicle Weight. Uprating requires technical approval, the correct vehicle configuration and a document pack for the DVLA process.

What the review considers

Vehicle configuration first

We need to understand the motorhome’s existing plated weights, axle limits, suspension, wheels, tyres and intended payload before identifying whether an uprate route is available.

  • Current VIN plate and registered weight.
  • Front and rear axle limits and actual loading.
  • Wheel and tyre load ratings.
  • Existing or proposed suspension modifications.
  • Vehicle age, chassis and conversion details.
VB-WDT document route

Uprating fee: £375 + VAT*

Once the appropriate suspension and vehicle requirements are satisfied, the dealer submits the uprate order and the resulting pack contains the documents needed for the customer’s DVLA application.

  • The £375 + VAT fee is for the uprating route/documentation.
  • Any suspension, wheel, tyre or other required work is additional.
  • Approval is vehicle-specific and cannot be guaranteed from registration alone.
  • Do not operate above the current plated limit before the legal process is complete.

Frequently asked questions

Before you request a vehicle recommendation.

Is VB-SemiAir the same as full air suspension?

No. SemiAir is an auxiliary air-assist system that supports the original rear leaf springs and is adjusted manually or by an onboard controller. VB-FullAir replaces the relevant original suspension with an automatically controlled air-suspension system.

Will air suspension automatically increase my legal payload?

No. Suspension can be part of a technical uprating route, but the legal plated Gross Vehicle Weight does not change until the vehicle has been approved, the required modifications are complete and the DVLA/document process has been concluded.

What is the difference between FullAir AutoLevel and hydraulic levelling?

FullAir 4C can level the vehicle within its available suspension travel where AutoLevel is specified. SHR hydraulic levelling uses four jacks to lift, level and rigidly stabilise the vehicle on a pitch. The systems have different functions and correction ranges.

Do the guide prices include fitting and VAT?

VB’s headline prices for the Essentials Pack, Comfort & Handling Pack and FullAir 4C are stated as including installation and VAT. SHR is stated as including VAT and professional installation. Individual kit listings and vehicle options vary, so our formal quote will confirm the exact basis. GVW uprating is shown as £375 plus VAT and excludes any required hardware.

Can you confirm suitability from my registration alone?

Sometimes the registration provides a useful starting point, but we may also need the VIN, base vehicle, model year, AL-KO or original chassis details, axle configuration, photographs, current ride height and axle-weight information.

Which vehicles can be considered?

The VB range covers many Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Relay, Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Volkswagen Crafter, MAN TGE, Iveco Daily and AL-KO-based applications, as well as numerous motorhome makes. Compatibility remains model- and year-specific.

Are Thurton technicians VB accredited and certified?

Yes. Our technicians have completed the VB-Airsuspension manufacturer pathway, achieving accreditation and certification. Regular advanced training remains ongoing to maintain manufacturer compliance and keep their technical knowledge current.

Which areas do you serve?

Our workshop is at Thurton on the A146 near Norwich. We welcome motorhome and campervan owners from Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex and across the wider East of England.
